WHAT IF someone decided to do a photographic portrait of a whole community? And what if this community had a population of around 300,000? How would one do it? What would it look like? Would it even be possible? And if so, wouldn't the turn of the millennium be the perfect time to do it?

Well, organizers in Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, are thrilled to report that the vision of this public art grand experiment came to fruition! The community-wide exhibit of the results were hung throughout the two cities, but have now come down. All that is left at this point is the computer catalog/"book", the CD-ROM. We hope you got to see the grand Expo Hall debut exhibit. It surpassed all expectations!

No, not all 300,000 people were photographed--"only" 2,000. But people from every corner and strata of the two sister cities were included and the number of individual participants is so large that the organizers hope to have created what will essentially be a collective portrait of a large community, both for now and for descendants of this community many years from now. At this point, it appears PORTRAIT 2000, with its ambition and scope, was a millennium project unique to America and probably the world.

Anyway, welcome to the P2K website! We hope this site answers any questions you want or need about this unique millennium public art project.
