No
fooling’, gang, April’s here and we’re off to a rocking good start on the year.
We had no fewer than 53 drivers show up for our March 25th autox at
the dragstrip. That included a good-sized contingent from Tyler, several people
from Little Rock, and 17 novices! I think that’s the biggest Novice class we’ve
ever had and I know it was the largest turnout we’ve had for a local event in
several years.
April
7th & 8th will see both a National Tour autox at
Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth and a road racer’s school/regional at Texas
World Speedway in College Station. Plus, for those who can’t make either of
those events, the good folks at Red River Raceway need all the help they can
get from us that Saturday.
Moving
ahead to Easter Weekend, April 14th & 15th, there’s a
HUGE Kruse International collector car auction in downtown Shreveport’s
Festival Plaza. And the folks at the Car Museum need help from every car club
in the area to pull it off. There will be more than 300 cars consigned for sale
and buyers coming from literally, all over the world.
If
you’ve ever wanted to try a Pro Solo, you’ll have your chance on April 21st
& 22nd because there’ll be one that weekend at the old Reese AFB
in Lubbock, Texas. Christmas tree starts, mirror-image courses, and some of the
top autox drivers in the country all combine for a very challenging weekend.
AND,
the 2001 TLAC (Trans-Louisiana Autocross Challenge) series is now officially
underway with the first event scheduled for April 29th at Burton
Coliseum in Lake Charles. We’ll probably take a convoy down there, leaving here
around noon (or maybe one) Saturday afternoon. So plug in your CB and let’s hit
the road! With the turnouts we’ve been seeing so far at our local events, and
the quality of driving that’s been exhibited, this could very well be the year
that Red River finally takes back the TLAC trophy from those pesky Delta
drivers.
I’m
STILL trying to work out a site location for our May 6th autox
event. Hopefully, I’ll know something in the next few days. But, whether we
autox that weekend or not, there’s still a full-blown TSD Rally scheduled for
Saturday, May 5th. And hopefully, there’ll be a big party after the
Rally is over. I’ll let you know more as soon as I know more, myself.
Thank
you, all, for your help and your participation. Red River is a great group of
people to be associated with. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate each and
every one of you.
Now,
go out and do something FUN with your car.
John
