At
the SWDiv meeting held January 6th in Irving, TX, I presented, for
discussion only, a proposal to change the Regional Race points scoring routine beginning in the 2001-2002 racing
season. I asked those in attendance to let everyone they knew in the Club know
about the proposal. I am asking for comments and want everyone to have a chance
to express their opinion.
Those
at the meeting were overwhelmingly in favor of the proposal, however the
favorable opinion was not unanimous. The plan is to solicit comments between
now and July and assuming the majority opinion remains positive, present it to
the SWDiv Corporation Directors for a vote at the July mini round table meeting
in Austin.
The
major changes are:
1)
Award
points for the top twenty finishing positions.
2)
Eliminate
the awarding of double points.
3)
Count
all scheduled races toward the Championship
The
intent of these changes is to provide a true season long Regional Championship
and to determine the winner by identifying the Drivers with the best finishing
records in all the races scheduled. We also want to properly classify those
drivers from the larger classes who consistently finish in the top[ twenty but
outside the current points paying positions.
John
has a full copy of the proposed changes. If you’d like to see them, just ask
him. Then let him or me know what you think.
