REport

REgards to all,

Well, this year is off to an unusual start, here it is the end of April and it seems like we have not had an event yet, except for the nine diehards that ran in the RE’s Wash Out event.

Event Schedule Changes

[Editor’s note: At the time of writing, the changes are not confirmed by the Raceway. We will update the schedule as soon as we receive final confirmation.]

The Texas region has scheduled a SowDiv Divisional on June 12 & 13, so our TLAC event has been changed from June 13, to July 18.  Usually the SowDiv Divisional series is a three event series, but this year the June 12 & 13 event will be the only SowDiv Divisional event for 2004.  There will not be a Red River region event on June 13, so we have added a Red River region event on June 27.

Red River Raceway has scheduled a drag race for May 23, so our May 23 event has been moved to May 30.

Hopefully, those will be the final schedule changes for this year.

Houston National Tour

John Lieberman, Rael Nidess, and I entered the Houston National Tour on April 3 & 4, what an eye opening experience that was.  I have never been on a course with such wide gates and long sweepers before.  The course was easy to follow, but driving the right line was difficult for me to do.  Disaster struck Rael as he was getting ready to move up in standings in STS on the second day.  On his first run, his brake pedal went to the floor, caused by one of his steel braided brake hoses rupturing.  None of the local auto parts had a replacement hose, so Rael was done for the day.

That’s all for now.  Have fun, and most of all be safe.

Rick Bagnard

Club Meeting Minutes

March

·          Rick Bagnard, R.E., called the meeting to order.

·          Our TLAC was discussed regarding the possibility that the chosen date, June 13th, might conflict with a Divisional event should Delta region choose to schedule one.  Subsequently, 3.3.04, Rick advised that Delta Region will hold a Divisional Event on May 29th & 30th.  Additionally, CenLa will reschedule their June 13th event to June 27th.

·          Online event registration was discussed since several different methods are now available.  Paul Carrig (website manager) will review these and make a choice appropriate to the region’s needs and resources.

·          Course chairpersons for several events were selected.  Many events, however, still require chairpersons.

·          John Lieberman discussed the 3 timing & scoring software packages available.  Having reviewed them carefully he recommended the AXWare program ($239.00).  Following a discussion of the various programs’ capabilities and deficiencies it was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously, to purchase the AXWare program.

·          It was noted that Greg Grimes’ (prior webpage manager) website had won 2nd place in the national competition for best small region site.  An engraved pewter plate he won was displayed.

·          John Lieberman presented a CG Lock for examination (a seatbelt restraint device for use in competition).  He advised that the SCCA Safety Committee had reviewed the device and determined it could be safely used if attached only as intended on lapstraps without an inertial tension device.  The lapstrap cannot be worn or frayed and it cannot be used on the torso strap.

·          John Lieberman also reported on the National Safety committee meeting regarding the appropriate use and completion of the Adult and Minor Release and Waiver.  He urged all members to familiarize themselves with the current guidelines (available for review at: http://www.scca.org/interactive/insurance/RallySoloRW.pdf).

·          A treasurer’s report was not submitted since no appreciable change from the prior report had occurred.

April

·          Rick Bagnard, R.E., called the meeting to order.

·          Rick Bagnard reported that due to schedule conflicts with Regional events and also with the Red River Raceway, it will be necessary to reschedule the second event in May and also our TLAC in June.  Rick will research alternative dates and present them to the Committee.

·          Kurt Kelley generously offered the use of a laptop to test timing software.  It was decided to attempt to setup and use the laptop with the AXWare software at the next event in May.

·          The treasurer’s report was presented in absentia due to Rael’s unfortunate brake issue at the Houston regional event stranding him in Houston for an extra day.

Thanks to all who braved the rain and attended the March “RE’s Wash Out” Event!!

In case anyone is wondering, we did have to wait for the water to subside before we could start the event!
