REport

REgards to all,

In my last REport I rescheduled two of our events on dates that are not available at the drag strip.  The May 30th event that I wrote about in last month’s report had to be cancelled because of a drag race at Red River Raceway on that date.

The June 27th event was moved from Red River Raceway to Airline High School. This event was originally scheduled for the Raceway had to be moved because schedule conflicts at the Raceway for that date.

Please check our website on a weekly basis to see what develops with potential new events and pending scheule changes.

That’s all for now.  Have fun, and most of all be safe.

Rick Bagnard

Preview of our first event on concrete for 2004!

Airline High School Event Preview

By John Lee, Event Chair

1)  This is the 340 x 400 concrete lot next to the football stadium that
we used for our auto-x schools in 2002 & 2003.  When was the last time
you had a chance to run on concrete?!?

2)  We'll have to paddock across the driveway in a gravel lot or on the
grass.

3)  But...There will be a designated tire-cleaning station when you
first enter the concrete lot and a worker assigned there each heat with
our newly-purchased hand-held leaf blower to keep the gravel from
getting onto the course area

4)  We'll have workers assigned to monitor and control traffic for cars b
entering and leaving the course area

5)  IT SHOULD BE A LOT OF FUN!  COME ON OUT AND PLAY IN THE PARKING LOT!!!

Please note that due to events outside our control significant schedule change were made to  May and June events.

Club Meeting Minutes

May

·          Rick Bagnard, R.E., called the meeting to order. Meeting was held after the Drivers’ meeting at the May 2nd Red River Raceway event.  The following topics were discussed, but no official minutes were taken:

o        May 23 event cancelled because of drag race at Red River Raceway.

o        May 30 not available to reschedule our May 23 event.

o        Our TLAC moved from June 13 to July 18, if not pre-registered for our TLAC you must register by 8:30 am on Sunday July 18, concession will be open at our TLAC, our TLAC event chairperson is Rael Nidess, request made for extra volunteers for our TLAC.

o        June 13 date cancelled because of scheduling of SowDiv Divisional event on June 12 & 13.

o        New Sites being considered for our events prior to July 13, requires approval of site owner.

o        Notice that pre-registration only will be accepted at TLAC 3 on May 13

o        Treasury report given by Rael Nidess.

o        New AXware timing sofware purchase and test reviewed.

o        On line registration in planning stages.

·          Rael Nidell presented the current Treasurer’s report.

June

·         Rick Bagnard, R.E., called the meeting to order in a new venue; Chef Lee’s Chinese Restaurant (which seemed to be enjoyed by all).

·         Since the March minutes:

-         The June TLAC event was moved to July 18th in order to allow participation in the S.W.      Division’s event on 6/12 & 1/13.

-         The Axware Timing & Scoring Program was purchased and initiated at the May 2nd event.

-         A power inverter was purchased to allow the computer to run off an automobile battery.

·         The Secretary Treasurer was absent from the April 5th meeting and no minutes were taken.  A treasurer’s report was submitted via e-mail to the executive committee prior to the meeting.

·         It was announced that Red River Raceway would come under new ownership and possibly management effective 6.16.04.  At the meeting it was uncertain whether this would affect the club’s current racing schedule.  Subsequently it was learned that the July 18th TLAC event would not be affected.  The new owners are Ken and Molly Hall; current owners of the Hallsville, Tx drag strip.

·         The June event will be on 6.27.04 at the Airline High School parking lot.  Event Chairman will be John Lieberman.  Set-up will begin at 0730.

·         There was discussion regarding whether to award the H.G. Rogers year-end award on the basis of pax points vs. overall points.  It was pointed out that the award was also based on worker’s points and, as such, could not be effectively based on pax points.  The scoring method was left as is.

·         The issue of coverage of one of our events, for publicity, by Red River Radio was discussed further (prior discussion in e-mail between Exec. Committee).  The feeling was positive as long as the club was allowed to edit the final program and it complied with SCCA rules regarding non-spectator events.

·         The need for a new gas powered leaf blower to help clear the courses was made by John who advised that a used/recondition Poulan machine could be obtained for under $75.00.  This amount was allotted for the purchase that was subsequently made for $62.45.  The club voted permission for the leaf blower to be used at the upcoming S.W. Divisional meet in Mineral Wells, Tx this coming W/E.  John also presented a receipt for purchase of electrical jack protectors which will also be reimbursed ($10.79).

·         Rick presented a receipt for his payment of the re-licensure of the club trailer ($42.00) which will be reimbursed.

·         The need for corner worker awnings/tents was discussed.  John related that an old club member had purchased 4 beach umbrellas for this purpose and would see if those were available.  If not, he will investigate purchasing new tents.

·         This issue of temporary class numbers and letters was resolved by determining that they will be made using low adhesive shelf contact paper and large markers.  Connie agreed to obtain these supplies and will be reimbursed.

·         A proposed set of TLAC 4 General instructions was approved.

·         A proposal to modify the Tech Inspection sheet to a form similar to that used at TLAC 3 was approved and a new tech sheet will be designed and submitted to the Exec. Committee for approval when ready.

·         A proposal to reimburse Rael 1 night’s hotel fee for an additional day in Shreveport (at the event headquarters hotel est. cost ~ $63.00) needed to coordinate TLAC 4 was approved.

·         Paul Carrig & Kurt Kelly will continue to work with the Axware T & S program, laptop, and will arrange for a printer to be available for TLAC 4.  The upcoming event on 6/27 will be used to train additional personnel in the use of the equipment and to determine the need for any additional training needed to insure TLAC 4 runs smoothly.
