REport

REgards to all,

Wow, it’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and that the SCCA Nationals have already taken place.

We still have three events in the Red River Region in the next two months, so mark them down on your calendar.  Please try to volunteer for at least one of the events, if you have never volunteered before, don’t worry about knowing what to do, setting up or tearing down an event is not complicated, it’s just time consuming.  We could really use some help from new volunteers, because I know the same people that have already volunteered for every event so far this year are starting to get burned out.  If you know anyone that has shown any interest in autocross, the next few events would be a great time to bring them to an event, we can add an additional 30 or more drivers to our events and still wrap things up by late afternoon.

The TLAC 2004 series has finished for the season.  Many of the Red River Region members finished at the top or near the top of their class.  Unfortunately as a club, the Red River Region finished last this year, with the main reason being the lack of our members entering the TLAC series.  I hope a lot more of you can enter the 2005 TLAC series, if you can’t spend the night out of town, the TLAC events in Kender and Lafayette are on easy three hour drive from Shreveport, and you can make the trip down on the morning of the event.

Our new timing computer software that Kurt Kelly and Paul Carrig have set up, has been used at our last three events, and is working very well.  If you have not had a chance to look at it yet, stop by the timing table after an event, and they will be glad to show it to you.

I would like to thank the members that helped out with parking at the drag strip’s Night of Fire event.  The drag strip owners were very happy with the job we did in the parking lot, which will go a long way with securing the drag strip for autocross next year.

Thanks,

Rick Bagnard

Club Meeting Minutes

August

q       It was agreed that the Club would continue to provide newly licensed Solo II Safety Stewards with their 1st green cap.  John advised he has 3 on hand with two committed.  It was agreed the Club would order 2 new caps to replace those already committed.

q       Scheduling of the September meeting was discussed.  Due to difficulties with any Monday night meeting (due to the Labor Day holiday and subsequent SCCA Nationals) we agreed to meet, ad hoc, at the Sept. 29th event.

q       A call was made for workers for the Drag Strip’s Aug. 21st event.  Those leaving later that day for TLAC V will cover the earlier of two shifts.  Gary Linde will arrange for the later shift’s coverage by members not attending TLAC but who’ve attended our recent events.

q       Chairpersons for upcoming events will be:

o         August 29th – Emil Kaminov

o         September 19th – Gary Linde

q       The upcoming Texarkana event “Watkins Glen Jr.” (Saturday, Aug. 7th) was announced.

q       Rael advised that he had been selling club caps and shirts for $15.00 and raised the issue of whether this was correct.  Following discussion the Club determined that the correct price was $10.00 and that those who had purchased items at the wrong price were entitled to either a cash refund or a voucher for the overpayment to be applied to a future event fee.  These refunds/vouchers will total $50.00 (10 items) if all those affected choose to accept the offer.  Paul Carrig declined a $5.00 refund.

q       Paul raised the issue of purchasing a Club laptop computer since the Equipment Fund was sufficient and there were no other anticipated demands on it.  It was agreed that he would begin to investigate options with the intent to purchase.

q       There was a general discussion of potential new event sites.  There has been no further feedback on the Avaya site.  No new possibilities were identified.

q       Gary Linde presented 100 Red River Region Business cards (with bill for $16.83).  He has supplies for, and will print, and additional 100 cards.

q       Rael asked permission to order 200 SCCA “Get Real – Fast” Fliers rather than 100 (which was approved) and will order 2 Safety Steward caps from SCCA at $14.00/ea.  Additional adult & child waivers will also be obtained (no cost other than shipping).  No other items on the SCCA Region Supplies order form were identified as needed.

September

q       Rick Bagnard, R.E., called the abbreviated meeting to order following the Driver’s Meeting at Red River Raceway.

q       Since the August 2nd minutes:

o        Vouchers were issued to all those overcharged for club shirts & caps good toward club event fees or purchases of club merchandise.

o        Ordered merchandise (“Get Real – Fast” flyers and Solo Safety Steward Caps) were received.

q       Chairpersons for upcoming events will be:

o        September 19th – Gary Linde

o        October 10th or 24th – Paul Carrig (There is, as yet, no volunteer for the remaining October date.

o        November 7th – Justin Hobart & John Hackleman (Co-Chairmen).
